Any eSATA port on the PC can do that, what you are talking about is
really just a way to hold the drive vertically and thats just cosmetic.
any examples of such things would be welcome though
or a plug in base that uses usb to the pc to do the same

There's plenty of those on ebay. Not bases so much
as cables with a connector on the end that plugs into
the drive with the drive loose on the desktop.
