Default PCIe seems slow

Hi all,
I just upgraded my scsi card to a PCIe u320 scsi card (LSI0008). I
have dual 15k drives in Raid 0 and my speeds are still at 170 mb/sec
(per HD tach). Shouldn't they be higher? Is there anything that I
can tweak to get better performance?
Thanks
P

Your max transfer speed is limited to rate at which data passes the read
head, changing controller does not change that!

Mike.

Still? What, you lied in your earlier post?

Of course they should, you bought an Ultra320 card, didn't ya.
Obviously you should get 320MB/s, nomatter how slow (oops, fast?)
your drives (that obviously shall remain anonymous) are.

Hello again Fockert,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the forum.
Your sarcasm, cynicism, and witt always make me smile - you should be
a radio host.
Those anonymous drives are Seagate Cheetahs 73GB 15K U320 3.6ms avg
seek (st373453lc).
This is an HP xw6200 running xp pro with dual 3.4Ghz processors -
800Mhz Bus.
I upgraded from the pci scsi card (my last post) to a pci-e card, but
was hoping for a better increase in performance.
Thanks again
P

the claimed speeds for that disk are

56.1 to 86.0MB/sec

so it sounds like you're getting what you should for striping.

BTW, that's a very old model of disk drive. It's not going to hot-rod a
xw6200.

Thank you, I guess I need to look at some newer drives to get my
money's worth out of this card.

Just curious about your 'handle'; perchance do you intend it to
be a "Wheel of Fortune" style combination of 'Pachyderm' and
'dermatitis' in which case it should read 'Pachydermatitis'?

Regards,

Michael

*9* words used to describe it and only one that actually identifies it.
You sure you didn't make a mistake.

And what has that got to do with the drives.

Yes, obviously. And money to burn.

On what grounds. God speaks to you in your sleep?

Does a troll need a reason? What's yours.

51 to 76 MB/s according to StorageReview
48 to 73 MB/s according to c't

> so it sounds like

Right, sounds.

> you're getting what you should for striping.

Actually more, which we all know is impossible.

Like I said before, *what* 170MB/s.
