Default Help - Are there any SCSI commands for mount & dismount tape cartridges?

Hi,

This is a newbi question. Could some one please tell me is SCSI 2 or
SCSI 3 has any SCSI commands defined for mouting & dismounting tape
cartridges? If so, what are they?

Thanks,
BJ

Yes, there is the LOAD UNLOAD (0x1B) command.

For SCSI2 look at:
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/drafts/s2/s2-r10l.pdf
(Chapter 10.2.2, Page 244 or 280 respectively)

For SCSI3 look at:
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/drafts/ssc/ssc-r22.pdf
(Chapter 5.3.3, Page 29 or 39 respectively)

Depends on your perspective of what mount/dismount means. If you mean
physically loading/ejecting the cartridge then SCSI Load/Unload will do just
that, as Michael already explained. If you mean moving a cartridge into the
drive using a library then you need to send it the SCSI Move Media command.

If you mean mount/dismount from an operating system perspective then SCSI
has no specific commands to offer. Tape drives generally do not show up at
file system mount points or drive letters.
