dlt-s4 tapes.. reuse 30 times or so?

Does anyone know the re-use lifespan on these tapes.. is it around 30
uses, then you need to replace them?

No, such low numbers are only needed for helical scan technologies (with
rotating heads). HP specify 100 full passed for their DDS media (all
from DDS1 up to current):

For linear recording technologies like DLT at least 1000 runs should be
achievable. Fuji specify several 1000 "full uses" for their DLT media:

If you cannot provide enough data for the tape to stay in streaming mode
it must stop and rewind. That should decrease the expected lifetime.
