Default Compatibility Question

I 'inherited' a Compaq proliant 6500 server from my old job and would
like to replace the hard disks with something with more capacity.

The server uses SCA hot plug drives (currently 1x9.1GB and 2x18.2GB).

I was wondering if i could use any of the newer drives with capacities
of say 73.GB

I am completely confused as to whether the new drives would be
compatible to my old trays/controllers.

For example I found the ST373207lc 73GB drive from Seagate which says it
is compatible but I don't want to buy it and then use it as a doorstop

I know the performance will be limited by the controller and dont mind
much. If I later find a newer/faster host i want to be able to transfer
the drives and take advantage of the increased speed.

Thank you in advance for any response.

I'll test a 146GB and 72GB U320 HP branded disk in a 6500 tonight for you
and see what the embedded SCSI controller thinks.

I can't get my old proliant to boot anymore, so the test didn't go
anywhere aside from the new drives didn't catch on fire and still work
back in their native machines.
