Default cant boot xp from scsi drive

This has got me baffled. I installed a 160 GB SATA drive using
a PCI card (Ali M5283 SATA Link PCI Host Controller).
Apparently this is a scsi interface (but I only discovered this while
installing it )

This was done successfully from win 2000 - the idea being to install
win xp on it and have a dual-boot system. The drive installed as E
and worked in win 2000 as expected. the win 2000 installion is on F for
reasons that elude me.
Installing xp from win 2000 seemed to go ok - the installing process found
and identified E
and I proceeded to install xp on it. There was one interruption when
I had to go off and make a floppy of the ALI drivers as xp would ony read
them from a floppy on A (!)

Installation completed and on attempting to boot xp from the E drive when
presented
with the initial boot-up choices I get the error message :

'Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration
Problem
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk
hardware.
Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and
your hardware reference manuals for additional information'

I have delved into the windows documentation - which is a bit baffling. The
ALI
documentation is minimal (a small readme with installation instructions)

I have also tinkered with the boot.ini file but dont really know what I'm
doing despite microsoft's exhaustive explanations.

Fortunately, win 2000 still boots. And E is seen with what looks like an XP
installation on it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I need to do to to get the
machine to boot from this E drive?

Yes, PCI disk interface cards emulate SCSI.

On a proper dual boot system you should boot from the Win2k partition and get a menu to select Win2k or WinXP.

Post the contents of the Boot.ini file. You might have to modify it to load WinXP from the correct partition. Because Win2k still works it is safe to assume that it is still using the correct boot.ini file on the Win2k partition.

Nonsense. It shows up as a RAID card because it is not in PCI IDE mode.

Nope, it's obviously not.

Is this your card?

http://www.dtk.com.tw/product/sata/psa150a.html

It is not SCSI. It's ATA, so we can't help you.

And even if it was SCSI, you can see that some people here are more
interested in being sarcastic and insulting than helpful.
