We are doing network backups to a NAS, that we want to build on 500 or 750
GB drives. What are the best performing 500 and 750 GB SATA drives that
are under $150/each?

SATA and ATA are pretty much the same, neither have their own group.
The PC group comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.storage has been around forever.
