Default 50-pin device on 68-pin bus?

Am I right in assuming that I cannot use a 50-68 adapter to connect a
50-pin drive to a 68-pin SCSI card --even if it's the only device on
that bus? There would be a bunch of unterminated lines, right?

as long as the 68 pin cable is terminated you can.

the below is ok.

controller 68 pin<----connector---//---connector----->68 pin terminator
|
68 to 50 pin adapter
|
50 pin device, with termination OFF

Yup, obviously such devices are made for showing on mantlepieces only.

Oh? Which lines would that be.

They are for connecting wide devices to narrow buses, not for connecting
narrow devices to wide buses.

Those of the 68 that have no counterpart on the narrow device.

50/68 adapters exist for both jobs:

Your wide-bus have to be properly terminated. Therefore there are no
unterminated lines.

It has 2 connectors 1-50 and 1-68....right?

|>50-pin drive to a 68-pin SCSI card --even if it's the only device on

The 50-pin drive goes on a 50 pin connector, and is terminated,
either by a block or internal drive terminator..

|>that bus? There would be a bunch of unterminated lines, right?

Right, but maybe I don't understand the term "50-68 adapter"?????

It's a 50pin male, and will need a 50pin *female to female* cable
and terminate on the HDDrive or 50 pin block.............

Nope.

That's a 68->50 pin converter.

That's a 50->68 pin converter.

Like that the rest of that post made *any* sense at all.
Like that the second post made even *more* sense at all.
