Any gossip re parallel port scanners (ECP) with regard to speed v USB, and

Thanks.

The fact that the scanner has a parallel port, makes it very old and
probably slow.
You may have trouble finding drivers that work in Windows XP

USB 2.0 interface is a Maximum of 400 Megabits per second or about 60
Megabytes per second in theory.

In practice you get about 30 - 40 Megabytes per second transfer.

Any of today's USB scanners are fast.

Cheers Carl,
I made my decision on an Epson V200 for under $200,
that has multi marquee.

I was curious as to the parallel port models, as one can pick
them up for around $10, and with the usb adaptor, would
be fine as a back up machine.
The model I had in mind was the Canoscan 640Pex which was made for XP

USB is dramatically better, period, in EVERY way. And since all
scanners since about 2002 (if not earlier) are (or at least have) USB,
if you have a parallel port only scanner, it's truly a dinosaur.
