We have a 1 year old Epson 4490 perfection photo scanner and document
feeder. Here is the situation.
The document feeder scans but the scanner seems to be scanning the
"wrong area."
-- the flatbed scanner alone works fine
-- When the ADF is in the correct place (two back "pegs" fit into
"slots" on the scanner, we get no scan. Doc feeds through, the scan
takes place, but no image.
-- if we take the ADF feeder out of its "slots" and move it forward
2-3", we get a perfect scan.
It seems that the scanner is somehow out of alignment. Or maybe the
ADF. We don't really know which is malfunctioning.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I've called Epson and checked their web
site...
I'm guessing. There's a transparent strip on the ADF (part of the large
white plastic backing on the underside of the lid). On my 4490 it's
about 11 1/8 inches down from the very top of the lid. (The top of the
white sheet is about 1 1/8" from the top of the lid.)
If somehow the white plastic sheet on the ADF lid has slid out of
position I think you'd get the symptoms you describe.

Yep, that is about where mine is/are located. this is a mystery!
Well, for what's it worth, when the scanner is idle, the forward edge of
the metal bracket that holds the lamp is just under 1/2" away from the
plastic frame in which the glass is set.
I assume the ADF worked in the past; perhaps you've got the wrong one?
Mine is an EU-73 and its rear edge sits 1 9/16" forward of the rear edge
of the scanner.
I'd appreciate knowing what you eventually find out.
