reset ink level in lexmark and hp business 1100

i have 2 printers a lexmark x7170 and an hp business 1100 and i want to
reset the ink level checker.

a google search turned up using the nvram resetter from the lexmark
site would reset the lexmark ink but that did not work plus it is for
windows and connecting to a pc just to reset the ink levels is a pain.

i also have the hp business 1100 printer and i cant seem to find any
stuff on resetting hp ink levels.
