Hi
I want to buy a Canon printer (Pixma Pro 9000) that uses CLI-8 cartridges. I
would like
information about bypassing the chip in the cartridge so that the I may
refill and use them.
.. I also need to know a supplier of ink to fill the cartridges
Using new cartridges instead of refilling is just too expensive and I would
not be able to afford doing my own printing.
Thank you in advance for any reply.

Do yourself a favor and not buy this printer. It is a great printer if
you use Canon OEM ink. But if you put crap ink into the machine you
will no longer have a true Canon printer designed the way Canon did it
and your results will be of lower quality. You also may void the
warranty by bypassing the chip and you could possibly ruin the print
head depending on how much you print. Your results will also be subject
to fading.
You see you do not save anything since you do not get the same thing for
your money. You spend less and get less. It is like if you do not ruin
your printer you certainly are turning it into below a Lexmark.

There is no supplier that has been able to break the patent on Canon's
new CL8 ink and make anything that comes close.

Basically what you are saying is true. It is very expensive. The best
thing to do is to only select your best stuff and then cut some photo
paper to about 3.25 x 4.25 and crop to that aspect ratio. Then edit
your stuff in Gimp or Photoshop or some good editor and look at a small
proof. Then you can print the enlargement.
Hope this helps.

Precision Colors identifies the ink they sell as Image Specialist brand.
MIS is an Image Specialist vendor as well, but they don't identify the ink
container as Image Specialist. Alotofthings sells Formulabs inks and
identifies the manufacturer. Hobbicolors does not identify the source of
the ink they sell. All three have had very good reviews from people on this
NG and on the Nifty Stuff Forum. Best results will be obtained by using a
custom profile for most accurate color response. I've used MIS ink and am
now using Precision Colors inks for my Canon i960 and my wife's Canon
ip5000. for four years I haven't used Canon OEM inks in these printers
since the first carts that came with the printers.
For lots of info on inks, refilling, and printer problems (whether you use
OEM Canon inks or aftermarket inks) go onto the Nifty Stuff Forum. Most of
the info is about Canon printers. Don't pay any attention to our resident
troll, Measekite, who will follow this post with his total BS about the
evils of aftermarket inks. I've seen his misinformation on this NG now for
over four years. http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/
You could also try getting these cartridges refilled at your local Cartridge
World. In the UK I get mine refilled by them and they can reset the chip so
I lose no functionality, the ink quality has been independantly shown to be
better than canon's and there is no loss in fading either. The saving is
about 60% against new. I know two high class professional photographers who
use this machine, they get there cartridges refilled at Cartridge world and
also use their photo papers. Do not believe measerkite, this person tells
everyone the same thing but professes never to have used third party inks,
so would not know the difference. Should any third party ink be shownto have
caused damage to the printhead then that would void canon's warranty,
however, you would be covered by Cartridge World's own warranty.

That is not true. If they use Formulabs for all of their ink and I do not know that for a fact it still cannot compare to Canon ink, especially CL8 which is new and patented where nobody has a match for it. Cart World claims to match BCI6
The saving is about 60% against new.
The only way to have savings is to find a source for Canon OEM ink that is 60% less. If you do not get exactly the same things for less it is not savings. Spending less and getting less is not the same as savings.

That is a lie. Read Canon warranty. Basically it says that if a foreign product damages the printer they do not have to repair it under the warranty.

Nothing is properly disclosed
Alotofthings sells Formulabs inks and identifies the manufacturer.
That is what they say on one section of their site and say nothing on another section. HARD to figure out what they sell. I would not buy from them. I never said that aftermarket ink is evil. It fades faster and has a high propensity to clog the printhead if you do not print frequently and most if not all of the vendors do not prominently disclose what they are selling and if they do you never know when they change their source. Additionally the quality is not as good. You never save money because you are not getting the same product as OEM. You may spend less and get less.
If a person is willing to get less and spend less and print frequent enough not to clog the head and are willing to accept the lower quality then maybe that is the route they should take. That is what I am saying. Anything else is false.

about the evils of aftermarket inks.
