Problem with K-M 5430 DL networked printer

I installed this networked printer at home last month. No problems,
everything worked just fine. Then I shut down (including powering off
the printer and all computers), went on vacation, came back and the
printer isn't accessible!

I can see from Printers & Faxes (Win XP) that it's a Crown Port+
(don't know if that's Konica Minolta specific or something Windows)
and has address 192.168.1.102 The router had assigned that number to
my PDA, which I powered on while the printer was off. The printer got
192.168.1.103. I deleted the PDA and printer (.102 and .103) from the
DHCP client list, then power-cycled the printer. Now it works!

I have two concerns with this. First, a dynamic IP address doesn't
seem to make a lot of sense. Secondly, I have the same problem at
another location, the printer's IP address has _NOT_ been assigned to
another device, and the printer still isn't getting an IP address.
This suggests a possible problem with the router or cable, but could
it be something else?

The install routine didn't offer any way to set a static IP (AFAIK)
though making a printer DHCP doesn't sound like a great strategy. Is
there a way to assign a static IP address to the printer?

To follow up on my own question, I found the way to change to a static
IP (through the browser). Seems to be working now.

I'm still concerned about the other unit, which doesn't seem to be
getting an IP address from the DHCP server. However it's in another
city so I'll have to take the lessons I learned today and apply them,
then see if it still acts up.
