Consumer Reports picks Dataproducts as the best Ink Refill System!!!
FACT: ConsumerReports.org has several articles that talk negative
about after market ink refills and after market ink catridges.
However, they recommend Dataproducts for the best Ink Refill Systems.
Consumer Reports stated, "the Dataproducts (Automatic Ink Refill
System)..........represent significant savings over the HP. Its photo
quality, judged good, matched the OEM HP black 96/tri-color 97
combination." However, this product is only sold for HP and Lexmark.
Consumer Report is only talking about the Dataproducts automatic ink
refill system, and not their regular ink refills or their after-market
cartridges. (If you are interested in the detailed report,
ConsumerReports.org charges $5.99 for a 1 month subscribition. They
need to charge because the magazine is not supported by advertisers.)
WHY AFTER-MARKET INK COMPANIES DON'T WANT YOU TO READ THIS (FACT):
After market ink companies in general make their most money off after
market cartriges. Yes, they make money off ink refill systems, but
not as much. Consumer Reports actually stated, "Off-brand cartridges
often cost much less than brand-name cartridges. Based on our tests,
you'll probably find they're saving you little or no money when you
calculate per-photo costs." I personally remember my OEM cartridge
lasted longer then my after market cartridge.
WHY PEOPLE ON THE BULLETIN BOARDS HATE ME (THEORY): I have come to
believe that this bulletin board is run by people that have a
financial interest in either the 'printer companies that charge a lot
for OEM ink' or the 'after-market ink companies'. Therefore, you
will find a lot of post that hate me in general, because I'm endorsing
an item that will cause both companies to lose money. This thread
will not be moderated, and you will see people bashing me on the their
own post. However, can they back their bashing Opinions with Facts?
OPINION: You can save a lot of money on ink, and have good quality
prints. However the catch is you have to refill it yourself, and you
need a Lexmark or HP printer. If you choose to not refill it
yourself, you can go with the Kodak 5100, 5300, or 5500 printer.

Oh Yeah, Keep on cooken. I agree with all except PC World. The bad thing about them is they place too much emphasis on price when the rate stuff instead of just saying what is the best. I think they should have a dual rating what is the best and what is the best value. If the 3rd rate product costs way less then it may be the best value and if someone wants to spend a lot more and does not care they can get a maginally better product.

I would not use a Lexmark even if it was free. I also own an HP990 and like it. I use it for general printing, no photos and where paper handling (envelopes and small stuff) is not a requirement. I do not like HP practice (in their computers) of putting stuff from Wild Tangent (formally Gator) (adware and spyware) games on their new computers. It seems they are after profits and not the well being on their customers.
The best standard format printer is the Canon IP4300 for about $60.. when on sale and after rebate.

Seriously, the old Epson models before they went to the "chip" and the
individual cartridges per color, were a cinch.
Also, the previous generation of the Canon printers (just going back to
the first 1 printers)., which used no chip.
Even the earlier Epson models that used the chip aren't too bad because
the cartridges are easy to refill, and the chip can be reset with a
$5-10 device available on line, or through free software.
Early HP models weren't bad either.
I don't know that any of the newer models are easy to deal with. The
newer Canon can be refilled, but you have to shut off the ink monitor,
and make sure you don't allow any color to run out of ink, as it can
will likely ruin the head.

printer. Go to eBay and type in keyword, "18 ink cartridge for Canon
i960". The total price will be less then $18.00 shipped, that's about
99 cents each.
It doesn't matter what quantity, what brand(Canon, Epson, HP,
Lexmark), they are still the cheapest on eBay. Shop around for the
best price, there is so much competition on eBay that the only real
winner is the consumer.
