Default Older Canon BJC Printer Question, Please

Hi,

I have a several year old Canon BJ 4400 printer which i really like.
It runs thru an LPT port to my older PC, and I only use it to print a few
copies of B&W text
each week.

Really plain and basic, and just perfect for my few printing needs.

Today, I can't get it to work.

The power light on the printer's front keeps blinking green.
This is whether the PC is on or not.

I am fairly certain that it is a printer problem, and not PC related.

No paper jam that I can see.
Fairly new cartridge.

Am hoping that someone still using this printer migt have some ideas ?

Thanks,
Bob

Default older canon problem

Ho Bob,

You said the power light just keeps blinking?

on these older printers, the errors are submitted by the indicator lights ( eg. 2 orange blink/4 green blinks). Watch very carefully when you turn the printer on, and see if it just blinks on and off green repeatedly or if there is other blinks of orange or green, and how many of each. This will tell us where the error is, I have the service manual, and I will look it up for you, and let you know what the error is, and how to fix it.

I can't speak with any authority about this printer, but it may be
indicating that the waste ink pads which store the waste ink from the
cleaning cycles, have filled up.

If the blinking is in a pattern or group of flashes you should count the
flashes in the pattern and call Canon. They can tell you what the code
means.

Good call.
The owner needs to find out what the flashing means, and if it
represents a user-fixable fault, or a service fault.
Ink absorber full, for instance, is a service fault that requires a trip
to a Canon service centre and a repair bill.
He should note that the code represents where the self-test stopped,
which is not always the same as the actual cause of the problem...
