A friend with an older Mac system which can only run OS 9.2.
Their HP printer died and they need a new printer.
I checked around a couple months ago and did notice there were sill
some that had the drivers for 9.2.
I looked around yesterday and found none. All seem to require 10.2
etc.
I checked Canon, Epson, HP.

Although one could purchase this $100 Samsung laser printer that would work
on Apple OS 8.6 and upward
I am dubious myself that there would be an inkjet model out there at this
point that would handle OS 9, but perhaps color is not necessary for your
friend.
I would suggest to your friend, that if he/she can possibly afford it, to
shelve the current computer and move up to the mainstream and get something
that will at least run OS 10.4. One of the benefits to running modern
hardware and software is reaping the benefits of what it has to offer,
besides speed. An alternative would be to take one's chances and look for an
older model used printer and possibly computer on Ebay.

I am trying to talk her into a new system but she spent 30 years on a
computer and only wants to print out an occassional letter now.

Yeh, I've worked with lots of those kind of folks.

It's hard to be specific with so little to go on, but this link might
give some ideas:

Should be no problem. The proper drivers are likely on the new printer
CD and if not can be found out there in web land. If not officially
then somewhere in the Macsphere.

More than likely, not, for OS 9.x.

Your friend's best bet may be to find a second hand printer, although to
update to a computer that'll run OS X may be a better bet. What machine
is it?

Find a used Laserwriter IIg. We were giving them away six or eight
years ago, so they can't be worth much.
