Heath & John & John-
The LaserWriter IIg is a great machine, especially if you increase its
memory to the maximum it will hold.
Another possibility is to find a printer that connects via Ethernet,
that is PostScript compatible. It should be possible to print to such a
printer from an OS 9.2 machine using its IP address and the generic
PostScript driver.
It is possible that the generic driver (the plain LaserWriter Printer
Description file) is not included with the latest version of OS 9.2, but
a copy from OS 8 should work.

Thanks, yes I was going to suggest that we could set it up on a
little network but she is going for the Samsung printer another poster
mentioned.
Seems like a decent printer, 1200 x 1200 dpi, on sale etc.
Had to use an ethernet crossover cable for the connection
BUT
The network utilities wouldnt install. Got on the phone to Samsung
And after going back and forth with some techs the decision was this
printer (ie the software) would only work on a 10.2 Mac OS
So we are in the process of returning to Egg Head, and continue the
search.

The joys of mac OS 9.
HP businessjet 1200
HP Deskjet 6540
HP LaserJet 3015
HP LaserJet 4200n
HP Officejet d135
HP Deskjet 5650
HP Deskjet 9300
The thing about the Businessjets is they are beasts. They are huge
printers really designed for a high demand environment. Don't expect
them to look as decent as a modern photo printer, but do expect them
to WORK well, quickly, for a long time. The #10 is like 69ml, about
a 1430 page yield, for $36 or 2.5c/page. This is pretty good.
Buying a set of ink will run you $144 which is why I bought up a new
one which would contain ink.
But the sad truth is, the best choice for OS9 printers is the used
circuit. Lasers and the non-consumer inkjets are likely the best
choice. You will spend more for a OS9 compatible printer, but as long
as you are spending more, you might as well get a heavy duty model.
the HP 8750/8450 is also listed as having os 9 drivers
You can find them on froogle.com "without ink"
I forget what the black yield is, but unlike some of the other
options, they will run without color ink AFAIK"

Are you talking the
Lexmark W840? Gotta love search engines.
It is listed as having OS 9 drivers, that's good.
It costs over $2000.
I have to admit, I've been listing some office models that cost a
pretty penny, more than $100. I sort of expect that if one wants to
maintain their os 9 machine, they do have to pay more for a printer.
But you can find laser printers well under $2000 with post script
support.
