Default Lexmark X125 - get message "could not start print job"

I have been using my Lexmark X-125 printer for months with no
problems. Suddenly I started getting the message "could not start
print job" when I try to print something. I have completely removed
the printer and re-installed it with the latest drivers from Lexmark
but the problem persists. When I get this message I look at the print
status and it shows the print job pending and says "sent to printer".
The printer utiilities work, it prints a test page, calibrate sheet,
etc. It just will not print from an application.

Any suggestions.?

The problem started about the time I installed Zone Alarm but I am not
sure since I didn't try to print anything for about a week. Could
this have caused the problem?
