I tried helping my cousin get his Lexmark 715 printer to work. He had taken
both the black and color cartridges to Walgreens Drug Store refill service. He
uses his
printer at least once a month to print color pictures and has had no problems
with the
unit. However, his color cartridge does not output any color. I can see ink
coming
out of the cartridge placing a paper towel at the cartridge ink exit. I have
run the
cleaning cycle which only shows the black colors printing out. Test photos are
all
coming out black and white. I would recommend him to return the cartridge to
Walgreens for a refund and buy a new Lexmark cartridge. But what if the problem
is somehow in the printer? His color cartridge was printing fine prior to
refilling. The
ink status on his XP printer interface shows the cartridge is full of ink. Will
buying a
new cartridge fix this problem?
Make sure the contact to the cartridge are clean. It is possible the
head has failed.

The problem was fixed by replacing the color cartridge with a new Lexmark one.
Either the cartridge was too far gone, or Walgreens killed it when they tried to
refill it. They claim their refill machine has all kinds of error checking built in.
I
doubt it.

I called the tech people about my refilled color cartridge not
printing all colors ( only blue and yellow), they told me to only use
new color cartridges. My black works fine. I am ****ed because I
just spent $15 at Walgreen to get the color refilled and wasted my
money. Two questions. Are the tech people for real about using only
new cartridges and do you think Walgreen will give me a refund?
Do they provide any warranty on the refilled printer cartridge?

I would ask Walgreens for a refund if they warrant the refilling
process. I would continue to refill cartridges but recognize the heads
incorporated do eventually fail. Walgreens' refilling service should
test the cartridge before refilling to make sure it is working.

Notwithstanding the fact that no OEM ink is junk you can rationalize the situation that Lexmark is crap and is deserving of junk. Can a Canon ip4500 and use Canon ink and you will not have any troubles.

Yes, they returned my cousin's money. However, we both waisted a lot of time
chasing this one down.

Their so-called sofisticated refill machine is supposed to check for errors.
Obviously, it misses some. To really check the cartridges, they would need a
compatible printer for every type they refill. Not very practical. Maybe they can
just improve their error checking machine.

I have refilled my Epson printer for several years now, with no problems. The
technology is there for those who know how to use it. My cousin is not up to
that
kind of activity, so I am not pushing him in that direction. Interesting
enough,
Epson just won a law suit prohibiting anyone from selling generic cartridges for
refilling their printers. This points out to me that these printer companies
are holding
us hostage to buy only their supplies. Let them increase the cost of printers,
it they
cannot make a profit. Socking us for their cartridges is a cheap marketing
ploy.
