My Canon i850 started printing horizontal white stripes, at regular
intervals. This happens with the color inks. I tried cleaning the head,
resetting the printer, resetting the computer, printing from another PC. It
seems like a printer issue. I had used 7 or 8 sets of generic ink
cartridges. I wonder what may have happened. Thanks for any help.

You need to change bait. That ol' pilchard is starting to _smell_ stale.

White stripes through all the colors generally indicates an electrical issue
rather than a clogged printhead. You might have luck removing the printhead
and cleaning the contacts with a damp lint-free tissue. Also clean the
contacts in the printer. If this does not correct the issue you may need a
new printhead.
You got what you purchased. The effects of the crap ink that you used
so you should not expect to have a smooth running printer. The thing to
do now is to get a new Canon IP4300 on sale and with rebate for about
$60.00 and always use the good Canon ink.

Now that is dumb. You should know better being in the printer
business. A new printhead can cost over $70.00 while you can get a new
Canon IP4300 for about the same when on sale and for less if on rebate.
And you also get a full set of OEM ink unlike the HP that only give a
sample size.

This might not exactly answer your question, but just in case you are
in the market for a new printer. Look at the Kodak Easyshare full
size printers. The Kodak OEM black ink retails for $10.00 and the
Kodak OEM color ink retails for $15.00. I think the combo color and
black and white is only $21.00. You can't beat that. You never have
to worry about what type of quality you are getting from after market
ink.
