initializing printer

I have a notebook to which I have tried connect two different
printers. One works fine for a day then gets stuck in the initializing
mode. The other never gets past initializing.
What to do? Where to go? My NB is a Sony, 6 months old.

What is the printer model? How is it connected (USB, Network, ???)?
