Three trays is the maximum for this printer. The "x" model that you have comes
with the maximum number.
A question comes to mind, with 500 sheet capacity (250 in each cassette) and a
50 sheet multipurpos tray looking at a fourth tray suggests exceeding the duty
cycle of the printer. Or do you simply want a tray for special paper?

Hi Tony
Yes it is needed for special paper. On the bottom of the second tray there
are all the same fittings that would allow another similar tray to be added.
Is this not possible on this machine? Can you recommend one that will take 3
proper trays but doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Cheers

The printer PCL driver does not support tray 4, so that means the hardware
won't support it either. I can only assume the tray 3 option can be installed
on a printer that does support tray 4 and that is why the hardware is present
on the bottom of the tray.
I am reluctant to recommend printers due to the myriad of options that are
available and the difficulties in assessing needs in a forum like this. However
I would suggest that you call an HP dealer and ask for the cheapest printer
that supports 3 cassette trays (plus the MP tray, tray 1). It is likely that a
printer that supports 4 trays will do what you want since that feature
generally only comes on high spec printers. You would have to specify your
operating system, the type of connection you use (Ethernet, USB etc.) and
whether you need a duplexer etc.
Good luck

hi tony,
thanks for your reply. I spoke to HP yesterday and they assured me that the
printer would take the 4th tray? I do hope you are wrong because I have just
ordered it!

You may have gotten wrong advise since the P2015 printer maxes out at
3 trays (1 manual and 2 drawer) which the P2015X version is delivered
with.
Hi Lenny
If it works please let us know, I have to say that I doubt it will unless the
HP website is wrong and they have written their drivers in a way that they have
not before.

Typical.
Before placing the order I phoned the office and asked if there were
connection points on the bottom of the 2nd tray and they said that there
was. I spoke to HP and they said yes so as far as I could tell that is a
yes. I ordered the tray, went into the office when it arrived to install it
and what do you know - there is no connections on the bottom of the 2nd tray
and of course it will not fit. How hard can it be to take a look under a
tray and tell me what fittings are there? Obviously a little to hard for
some people and why can't HP understand a simple question without getting it
wrong? So in conclusion, I am afraid that there is no chance at all of
getting another tray fitted on the 2015.
Cheers

Regrettably the only solution is a different model printer. Hopefully the tray
can be returned for a refund.

Telephone support / sales agents do not have access to the product(s)
to see how / what it is / has. Allso, the agents may not even be with
in the continent as you. A lot of phone centers are "farmed" out to
companies in overseas. I recently dealt with a support agent by the
name of 'Vishnu" which lead me to think they were in India. If this
is the case with HP (have not dealt with them recently) then the local
P2015 printer could have been different.
BYW: The Laserjet P2015 printer is shipped with PCL5e "lamed." You
need to get the LJ P2015 Font DIMM (from HP directly) to fix this
PCL5e "issue."
