Default HP laserjet 1020 cant duplex

It worked at one time now it only prints the even numbered pages and the
print on both sides screen does not come up. Status messages is set to ON.

Go into the printer properties dialog and verify under device setting
that the duplexer is set under installable options.

This printer does not have an auto duplex feature so you must have used manual
duplex previously. That is a function of the printer driver or the applications
you use.
Which application were you using?
Have you upgraded the printer driver or operating system?
