Default HP Deskjet 950c problem - request for advice please

Hello, I use winxp home, have had good use from my 950c printer.
Recently the colours have been ...'drifting' i.e. the browns have been
coming out 'pink/purple'? Black is not seen on my test sheet
printoffs? Is there an easy way to 'clean' this machine?
I have gone through all the hp cleaning processes, but no change.
I am limited in my tech. knowledge, so please keep any advice on this
as simple as you can..... :-)......thanks
Allen

Most likely your color cartridge is empty, running out of yellow and nearly
out of cyan. For starters, open the lid and see where the carriage moves.
It will point at one of five positions, see:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

Your black may also be out of ink or it may be clogged. Start by opening
the lid and look at the small window on the back of the #45 cartridge. If
this is green you still have ink, if it is all black the 45 cartridge is
low.

I would suspect you need a new set of cartridges. You can print a
diagnostic self test as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...&lang=en#N1275
This should show a nozzle pattern of black, cyan, magenta and yellow. If
black is not printing at all you might carefully blot the cartridge on a
damp tissue.

Thanks for your reply Bob,
I've replaced both catridges, the print test doesn't show any 'Black'
when I print any black typing it comes out blue?
I'm going to try pressing the 'resume' button etc...tommorrow as its
getting late and other matters are piling up.
Thanks again
Allen

I've done as much as I can but its still printing without showing
proper colours. The yellows come out white, browns come out
pink/red..... I think this printers had its day, or I have? :-(

It just sounds like a bad cartrdige - you are out of yellow ink and perhaps
cyan as well. Replacing the color cartridge should solve that problem. You
may also have a bad black cartridge - in some print modes the printer will
underprint black with cyan to improve dry time. If the black is not
printing only the light cyan would show.
