It adds a thin line straight down the page, about 1-1/2 inch from the
side, but not all the time.
It does not print the extra line when I am copying a document that I've
laid on the glass. Also, no line on documents that I send to the
printer from my computer.
It prints the line only when I am copying a document that I've put in
the feeder. The line starts about 3/16 inch from the top of the page,
and stops about 3/16 from the bottom. I have examined the long narrow
glass, and I don't see any dirt on it.

It could be one of two things; a speck of dust on or inside the glass,
or a defective element in the photosensor array. Check the glass
very carefully with a bright light. If the resolution of the scanner
is 2400 DPI, then a speck 1/1000" across could produce a 2 dot
width black line.

Thanks. I wiped the long narrow glass again, and that fixed it. I
guess that the first time I wiped it I missed a tiny little speck.
