I don't have a 2610, but I do have a 2110. Assuming it's similar, the
only thing I can think of is to try cleaning the electrical contacts in
the printer carriage. Distilled water is best, as I have heard there are
oils on these contacts designed to protect them from corrosion, and
solvents will remove them. (This after I used some alcohol on my own
printer. I was lucky - no ill effects apparent yet.) If the water
doesn't work, you might try a little light work with a pencil eraser,
emphasis on LIGHT. If that doesn't work you could try isopropyl alcohol
as a last resort.
Other than that, it may be time for a new printer.
