Have an HP 1220 C that has started to print "rippled prints". It
appears that the print heads do not know where to start and stop.
Random ripple across entire print. Have cleaned pinch wheels
and cleaned and lubed carrier rod that heads travel on. Anyone have
any ideas as to what the problem might be. Any help or suggestions
appreciated.

I've had that happen many times when I overfilled a cartridge, but
that doesn't sound like what you did. In such cases I put some scrap
paper in and made lots of copies until it burned off the extra ink.
Then I cleaned the printer of excess ink that sprayed about.

The DJ1220s I supported liked to spray a fine mist of ink all over
inside and on the desk underneath. So cleaning the optic encoder strip
might help:
Warren,
Thank you very much for the info and the web site info. If you heard
some loud shouting and happy screaming out west, that was me. Cured
the problem in five minutes. You have no idea how much I appreciate
your help. Thanks again
