Hi.
I have a HP2600n laser printer, which I use to write my letters and
other documents.
In spite of all my efforts, some of the really basic colors (the most
standard <red> for example) look "diluted" after printing, although
they appeared absolutely correct on screen through Word.
I also ordered visit cards from a vendor, and the same colors were
perfekt.
What's wrong, doctor?
Many thanks for any help.

Is it only the Magenta output that is faint?
If so it is probably a buildup of toner on the Magenta laser mirror (Magenta is
the lowest cartridge in the printer). This can be cleaned but needs someone who
is comfortable with dissasembly. See http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/...readId=1073731
for more detail (see the posts from Don Thompson).
Before you attempt this, try the Screen Match feature in the Color tab of the
printer driver.
A good test is to print small blocks of Magenta, Cyan, Yellow and Black from a
spreadsheet (set a few cells in the spreadsheet to Magents and a few to Cyan
etc.).
This should show you whether there is a problem with only one colour or with
more than one.
Last question, how many pages has the printer printed.

All colors are faint, but red is completely missing.

Looks probable: I'll have to call a vendor I guess.
I updated the machine's firmware, its driver, I changed all cartriges
(some were almost empty), but nothing changed.
<try the Screen Match feature in the Color tab of the printer driver.>
I must confess I didn't find this option on my machine's driver :-(
