Flashing USB Light

The network light on an HP6980 will not stop flashing. It is connected
to a computer running XP SP2 by USB cable. The problem is that the
printing text is garbled. If a test page is printed from the printer
control panel, it prints correctly. The problem appears to be a
connectivity issue.

The printer has been replaced twice. We have tried a new USB cable and a
new USB port. Any suggestions?

Can you try with a different computer? The trick is to eliminate all
possible causes one by one. Maybe sth wrong with hardware/software on
your PC?
