Well, the first thing to consider is, is there anything blocking the
paper path that could be causing a paper jam, like a paper clip, scrap
of paper, thumb tack, etc?

If you can determine that there is no actual paper jam, another cause
can be the head carriage unit is getting jammed or stuck due to dried
lubricant on the head carriage guides. This area can be cleaned with
isopropyl alcohol and then replace the lubricant (depending on the model
and design this could be a grease or a lightweight oil.

Can you describe exactly what you see on the front panel when this
"paper jam" occurs? Are some LEDs flashing and if so, exactly how is
the flash, fast, medium, alternating between two colors or LEDs or not, etc?

Sorry it took me a few days to get to the service manual for the C40UX.

My error "key" doesn't indicate this LED condition.

The only conditions that show the red LED on constantly are:

Out of paper
Paper jam
Out of black ink
Out of color ink
no ink cartridge

None of these conditions cause the green LED to blink. This may
actually be several conditions

A blinking green LED (along with a blinking red on) indicates a filled
waste ink pad.

I would suggest removing the ink cartridges, cleaning the chip pads with
a bit of alcohol on a small swab. and the reinstalling the ink
cartridges firmly, and positively and see if that helps.

Also, some 3rd party cartridge may have the wrong chip coded on them, as
Epson has occasionally changed their ink cartridge codes used by the
chip readers. Sometimes a chip just fails.
