Default Epson 2200 Printer Problem

I am an artist. I print digital prints on 13x40-inch Crane's Museo
paper from my Macintosh 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. I've printed hundreds
of prints but just recently, the printer stops printing in the middle
of the print, not always in the same place, with all the lights above
the buttons flashing simultaneously. Paper is not jammed, but I did
get a message saying communication between the printer and the
computer was interrupted. I replaced the USB cable, plugging it
directly into the computer and I plugged the printer directly into the
wall plug, but got the same result. Any ideas on how to fix this
problem?

Are you using Epson carts with Epson ink?

Have you tried connecting it with a firewire cable to see if it works
better. I had nearly the opposite experience with my R1800. The firewire
connection was causing my system (windows) to crash but I don't have the
problem when using a USB connection.

I like the connection idea with firewire, but it could also be a driver
issue.
Are there any updated drivers for your machine? Check the Epson site.

Have you tried completely removing the driver files and then re-installing?

There are a number of potential causes, but the most likely other than
hardware failures (such as cable problems and connections) are either
conflicts between the printer and other operations which are stepping
upon each other, or problems with the spool file, although I don't
believe that typically caused the LEDs to flash. However, I admit
ignorance in how the print spooling process works with Macs and their OSs.

Another possibility is that the head carriage is getting slightly stuck
causing the loss of location. This is a simple fix, and worth trying to
fix, just in case.

Clean the metal guide bar the head carriage runs on with a lintfree
paper or rag with isopropyl alcohol. Then spread about 4 drops of
lightweight machine oil (like sewing machine oil) over the surface of
the bar. Then place on drop at either side of the head carriage bushing
where the guide bar meets it, and see if this resolves the problem.

Can you indicate to me exactly which LEDs are flashing, the frequency of
the flashes (how rapidly) and if they are all flashing at the same time
and rate or alternately, or in a series of flashes? That may help me to
be able to determine what the printer is actually trying to "tell" us.
