Default Canon Pixma IP4000R

Trying to print on a printable CD. My Canon Pixma IP4000R just ejects the
tray with the printable CD in it and tells me to put the tray with a
printable CD in the printer.

Are you waiting until the machine tells you to insert the tray? If you
do it too soon it will be spat out.

Has it ever worked? Is this a USA model printer? Is :"CD tray F" showing as
the selected "page size" on the page setup pane?

I wasn't but have just tried leaving the bottom feed closed until it asked
then putting the cd in inside it's tray, but it still took it in and then
spat it out

Have you checked to see if all the little silver things are in place?

My ip4000 sometimes refuses to reprint a disc, which I like to do if
I find the print too faint. I'll shove it back in, but if there isn't
at least a little bit of white on it it refuses to acknowledge it as a
printable disc.

I think in your case I would try re-installing the printer and see if
that helps.

Assuming there are no hardware issues, like dirty reflective strips, you can
go into the printers firmware and see if it's still got disc printing
enabled.
Go to this site: http://pixma.ulmb.com/?p=136 Follow the steps for enabling
disc printing. when it prints out the first test page, check to see if the
correct colors and numbers are showing. You can also look around that site
at the troubleshooting steps and see if you can find any problems.

Some people have reported that their printers "forgot" and lost the disc
printing function.

OK these are the instructions from that site - I had tried them before and
have tried them another 4 times now.

I don't get any print out at all.

How to enable the cd print feature:
I. Make sure the printer is off but is plugged in

II. Hold down [RESUME] (Triangle pointed down) and hold down [POWER] and
wait 5 seconds or so.

Release [RESUME] but Continue to hold [POWER]. Double click [RESUME]. then
Release [POWER].

Check to see you are in service mode by clicking [RESUME], than [POWER].
This should cause the printer to print a simple diagnostic that'll list it's
ROM number and list CDR SENSOR=OK in red for the last line.

{{{ Note the color of "iPxxx (LTR) V1.xx". Non-CDR support will be cyan.
Keep this sheet to compare to the one after you change the settings. }}}

III. Click the [RESUME] 5 times then click [POWER].This is the Destination
setting option.

IV. Click the [RESUME] 5 times "again" and then [POWER]. This is non Japan,
CD-R enabled, letter paper mode.

Press [RESUME] then [POWER] again.

{{{ This should cause the same test with ROM information but this time the
"iPxxx (LTR) V1.xx" will be pink. }}}

V. To confirm the new settings and return to printing mode press [POWER]. ÃY
{ Don't forget otherwise it will default to JAPAN IPx100}.

There is one thing I would try, if possible. If you have someone who
has a PC who will let you install the printer from fresh, see if it
works on a totally clean install.
