Default canon pixima IP4200

Hello all,

I got this problem. When trying to print on a CD usinig the tray, it
goes in and comes out after 3 sec. I get a message to try again, I do
but it's still the same. I used to have this problem but after a
couple of tries I somehow managed to print the CD. Now, no matter how
many times I try, it doesn't work. I try many initial positions of the
tray- still no result. Has anybody got the same problem?

1) Make sure that you do not insert the tray till it is asked for.
2) Make sure that the tray is selected in the "page size" drop-down on the
"page setup" pane. It'll be showing as "CD-R tray F" or something similar.

I've upgraded my iP4000 with a CD/DVD tray off eBay (the feature was
originally removed for North Americans... are we not people!). Mine
works flawlessly, no rejection. I can only suggest you make sure the
shiny small "metallic" reflectors are clean. The printer needs to read
them cleanly in order to use the tray properly.

Yep, it was the reflectors. They seemed clean to me but when i gave
them a good once over, it started printing. Piece of junk.

Thanks!

Have you tried using a different CD brand? I don't have that
particular problem with discs being ejected, but I do one type of
backup to DVD-RAM, and when I use one brand (Memorex), after the
drawer is closed, flashing LEDs indicate disc activity. If it
flashes for only several seconds, the computer won't recognize that
the disc is in the drive. I usually have to eject and repeat this 2
to 5 times before that LEDs flash for maybe 30 seconds, at which
point the computer sees the disc and I can do the backup. When I
use Maxell DVD-RAM discs, this problem never occurs. Even with the
Memorex discs, once they're recognized I've never had any disc
errors either reading or writing. FWIW, this was with a Lightscribe
drive supplied by HP with their m7470n computer.

All peachy but I was talking about ink prints done on a printer not in
the cd/dvd drive.

That's good to hear; it never hurts to take a wild stab at a wild
suggestion!

Well, mine seems "clean" looking at it like you did with yours. But
after I post this I'm going to shine it up with window cleaner, 'cos I
can't stand rejection. ;-)

P.S. I always store my tray in a drawer in the original plastic bag it
came in (that's another not-so-wild suggestion!)

(two thumbs up!)... Happy CD/DVD printing!

Side note: I enabled both my printers (iP4000 & iP5000) for tray
printing. The iP4000 prints perfectly but the iP5000 smudges. I have
removed the printhead and cleaned it thoroughly, even tried the thick
paper setting. All to no avail, it still smudged the printable disc.
But as I said, the iP4000 can do the job perfectly, so it's just a
minor irritant. I'll just have to live with my CD/DVD label printing
challenged Canon iP5000 printer. Fortunately they were wise enough
to design it so paper would pass through unsmuded by the printhead.
What a novel idea!!!

Taliesyn, I always thought you were Canadian and IP 4000's in Canada have
the tray I think. At least thats what I think Zak from this group said (I
drop by here sometimes, but haven't seen Zakeke (sp) here for quite a
while). I live in Canada and as far as I know, North America is US, Canada
and Mexico . Are you in the US?I wonder why they would remove the tray for
the US market. I have an IP4000 but never used the tray. I like the IP4000.
Its a good printer.
