EO error in most Canon copiers is a failed fuser. Either the fuser heater or
the thermostat, on rare occasions the DC controller can be the cause.
Fixing this is a daunting prospect unless you are experienced. Also the repair
will be expensive unless it is just the thermostat but you won't know until the
fuser is removed and tested. A replacement fuser will rival the cost of a
replacement copier unfortunately.

Appreciate the response even though disappointing.
Can a Canon dealer tell "while you wait" if it is just a thermostat? And
if so is that a quick fix and reasonable price?
Sounds like I should be prepared to buy a new copier.

I don't know what country you are in but a good service agent should be able to
diagnose the issue in about an hour, maybe a little less. They should then be
able to give you a quote for the repair. Sorry about the bad news, fusers fail
in laser printers and copiers because of the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

Thanks. I'm in USA.
If you are up on Canon copiers, is there a current replacement model for
the PC-8?
I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed. I think it is 15 to 20 years
old.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
The nearest tyhat Canon make to your model is the PC-170 so far as I can see.
This is a cheap copier that has very few features as you would expect.
Details at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=14669
If you need better than 4 copies a minute or more features you should probably
consider one of the multifunction lasers at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...categoryid=164
The multifunctions typically have more features, can be connected to a PC and
used as a printer and often as a scanner. Some have built in FAX capability.
It is hard to be more helpful without a detailed knowledge of your needs. Of
course HP (and some others) also make multifunction lasers
Good luck.

Thank you.
I'll look at those. My/our feature requirements are very basic. However,
we do copy from books and legal sized documents and do use the PC-8 feed
to copy on the back side of the copy. My first look at the
multifunctions concluded that those requirements may be hard to match
with our PC-8.
