My mp800 just went out of warranty & this non black & white printing
issue just arose. I use all Canon OEM cartridges. Shortly before the
printing problem, I changed a black cartridge but I don't know if the
new cartridge is the source of the color-only printing. Anyone here
have any thoughts/fixes about how to get this to work in b&w?
Can you do a nozzle check in the maintenance menu?
If you are only a few weeks out of warranty give Canon support an email and
type in escalate after you receive the canned reply.
Someone should be able to take care of the problem.

Call Canon. They may replace the cart. They also have been known to
replace entire machines that have a problem even though they are just
out of warranty as long as you use OEM ink.
