Hi All
Right now I have 2.6 GHZ HT proc on 865GBF mobo with 2GB RAM and good
AGP card.I am looking for performance gain without spending much.
Can somebody please advice wether to buy Pentium 4 EE 3.4Ghz 478 Pin
Vs Pentium D 3.4 775 pin.For prior I won't have to spend anything
extra aprt from processor cost and will fit to my 865GBF mobo .
If buy later I will have to upgrade to 866GSA mobo in scenario where I
keep 2 GB PC3200 Kingston RAM and 9800XT AGP 8X card.
What would be best in terms of performance on same type of RAMs in
both cases .

The P4EE has 2MB L3 cache. There are some benchmarks here.

What will you pay for a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition? The prices I see are in
the $300 to $400 US range. It seems to me that you should stick with your
current Pentium 4 2.6 GHz HT and overclock it (3.2 GHz or more should be
easy with stock cooling.) The Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 478 socket is a 130
nm process and would have little overclocking head room.
I certainly would NOT contemplate moving to still another obsolete
motherboard just to retain your obsolete memory and graphics card. I'd hold
off on ANY upgrades until you can jump to a Core 2 Duo system with PCI-E and
Dual Channel DDR2. The entry level price for the four new components you
would need is at the moment about
E4300 Core 2 Duo:__________________$118 US
EVGA 8500 GT 256 MByte:___________$107 US
Kingston DDR2-667 2 X 1 GByte:_______$ 85 US
EVGA 650i Ultra (Lite) motherboard:_____$110 US.
That is a total of $420 US for a system that, when overclocked (2.7 GHz with
stock cooling) will far outperform either of the two upgrades you post ($375
for the Pentium Extreme Edition and ~ $200 US for the Pentium D 3.4/Intel
Socket 775 motherboard.)

Your motherboard fits either of those processors? How?!
Nice comparison chart, thanks for posting it. But the chart includes
neither of the two CPUs mentioned in the original post. Also NewEgg has
neither CPU listed at the moment. And with both upgrade paths the original
poster would still be stuck with AGP and DDR memory.
I still think the choices are
overclock the current 2.6 GHz Pentium
OR
go for an upgrade that has a future.

Oh, yeah, different socket. But I believe he did mention one LGA775 chip in
which he was interested. This article gives a rough idea of comparative
