I've recently bought a new mobo (Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6), along with 4GB of new
RAM (Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500). I've also replaced my PSU, with a
Coolermaster RealPower M700, as that was potentially causing me issues, as
discussed in an older post.
I'm waiting for the new Q9450 to be available before upgrading the CPU. So I
am continuing to overclock my E6600 to 3GHz, using FSB=333, but running the
memory at 3.2x ... i.e. EPP speed of 1066MHz.
When I benchmark my CPU using SiSoft XII SP2, my Whetstone mark is
commensurate with that of an X6800 dual core, but my Dhrystone is rather
lacking, and is, in fact, just above that of a stock speed E6600. I've
listed the figures below...
I know that Dhrystone isn't a good benchmark, but even so, in a like for
like test, on the same processor family, I cannot understand such a
difference. When I do the multimedia test, the results are once again
comparable to a 3GHz processor. Any ideas why the discrepancy with
Dhrystone?

I should also point out that I cannot remember whether I saw this issue with
the Dhrystone benchmark on the old mobo (MSI 975X Pl P Up Ed). And I don't
intend to put that back together again! ;-)

On the Dhrystone test, my Q6600 @ 3.0 GHz was soundly trounced by the
QX6800 @ 2.93 GHz. The previous version XIb showed a proportional
increase. I think it's a Sandra thing and I wouldn't worry about it. I don't care
for the changing blinking bars in this version, either!

Quite agree...the blinking bars are a nightmare!
Thanks for your response...I shall stop fretting! :-)

Hmmm, I don't have Sandra installed ATM as I disliked all the false info it
was giving. Also, it appears that it's dhry/whet tests are significantly
different to others. I got the data for my CPU from BOINC and, for an E4500
running at 3.3GHz the numbers I got were:
Whetstone: 3180
Dhrystone: 7128
Obviously, with numbers like those quoted in this thread it's obvious that
different programmes use different tests.
Is there a simple test for dhry/whet? I can't be arsed installing Sandra
again but this thread has got me curious.
