Just one problem: average AC outlet are rated for 15A max, which is
about 1800 watts. A 2Kw power supply would be drawing max of about
17A. Even some commercial places would need to have their wiring
upgraded and not to 20A but to 25A at least. Got to leave some room
for monitor (about 1A for CRT), printer, and other periphals.

I thought 1500 watts supply would be overkill unless someone's
planning on tri or quad SLi video card.

Actually it will be about 1400 W at 120 V and 80% efficiency. Remember that
most PSUs are rated by their maximum DC wattage. The Ultra X3 1600 W, for
example, already includes a 20A NEMA 5-20R AC cable in the box; the cable is
required to use the PSU at full capacity.

See above. A 2000 W PSU, if it indeed can deliver its full specification,
will draw about 21A. It will be interesting to see this PSU in a review.
Maybe it requires a 220V outlet normally used for stoves and dryers. Since
CES is in Las Vegas, I assume the PSU will be marketed in North America...

Yes, it is overkill. Anandtech's 3xSLI 8800 Ultra rig drew "only" 730 W,
less than a horsepower. Then again, 3x SLI is overkill for most games, too,
but it hasn't stopped some people from buying it.

In the US, yes.

That is only the case for countries that use 110V or similarly low mains
power. For countries that use 230V or similar voltages this simply is a
no-brainer.

Since my house has aluminum wiring, I'd be rather afraid my house would
melt into a pile of goo at 2k watts.

I tend to define overkill by the lack of funds in my own wallet, not my
opinion of someone else's quest for 3 more fps.

It's been done:

I especially like the line: "gold plated connectors for superior
conductivity"; wonder if it was engineering-driven or marketing-driven.

Some server cases DO support dual power supplies

I like how Antec did this. It has the Motherboard and other things ran off the
one, then stuff like video cards and drives off of the other using modular
plugs.
