My current PC is a QX9770 quad-core processor, 4GB ram, Vista Ultimate x64,
EVGA 790i ultra motherboard and an EVGA 9800 GX2 video card. My question: Is
there any point to buying another 9800 GX2 card and running quad-SLI, or
should I wait for the next generation of video cards (any idea when that
will be)? I've heard a lot of people are less than impressed with two GX2s.

The new range of Nvidia cards will be released on 17th June 08....so I'd
wait and see what the benchmarks show. Remember, the scaling is ok with
quad but it still does not perform fantastically with games like Crysis.
I've got the GX2 and I haven't been that impressed and will change it when
the 280 has been released...hth

I can't imagine there are more than 500 dual 9800GX2 rigs in the entire
world, probably significantly less if you don't count demonstration or
prototypical systems.
Don't you want to be part of that small, exclusive club? Who cares how
much it "scales" it's better than a single 9800GX2, and that's all that
matters, right?
It's not like you are going to play any games with it, certainly none
that matter enough for you to mention them in your post...how you
configure them now, where they lag/suffer and what you hope to
accomplish....etc.
All that bother! Screw it, just get the 2nd card and be super special!
Only then will we deign to talk to you further.

Gosh...you're a bundle of joy.
The greatest disappointment with the GX2 is a old issue where in vista 64
the video drivers stop responding. Shocked that this still occurs for at
least the last 4 driver releases....

I was "super special" for a week, and then returned the cards for a
refund and went back to my 2x8800GTX's.
A total waste of money, and for $1200, they'd better scale and scale
well. They didn't.
Hopefully the next gen gards due out later this month will be as
significant as the 8800gtx's when they were released almost 2 years
ago..
