I recently received a NX8800 GTS graphics card from someone. It's by MSI, if it matters to anyone. Along with the card I received a couple of computers, one of which has the required PCI-Express slot to run this graphics card. I plug it in and the card emits the loud, annoying tone. The fan on the card does not spin.
I do not have the right type of monitor for the card (dvi connections), nor do I currently have a DVI to VGA adapter, so I don't know if the card is spitting any graphics out or not. I am mainly curious at this time if anyone might have an idea on WHY the card is making that noise. Seeing as I got the card for free it won't be a terrible loss if the card is junk, but I would certainly prefer to have it in working order as it is a SERIOUS upgrade from anything I'm running right now.
Any help anyone can provide is deeply appreciated.

Are you referring to the tone some cards make when they don't have their
auxiliary power (6-pin PCIe) plugged in?

What they said. The graphics board has a warning buzzer that indicates
problem conditions. From what you describe, the cable from the power supply
that should be connected directly to the graphics board is not connected.
High end graphics cards require more power than can be provided by the slot.

for an example. Without providing adequate power to both (or one, if
only one PCIe plug fitted) the on-board alarm will scream and the card
won't power up.
In the case of the MSI board, I can't find a good photo, but it looks
like there is a single PCIe power socket on the rear of the card.
Click the image on the card on MSI's page for a "similar" card and
you'll see the connector, top of the rear edge of the card...

I forgot to reconnect all four of the power connectors on my two 8800GTXs
after doing something inside the case and when I powered them on they
sounded like a couple of old European police sirens...scared the hell out of
me......:-). Couldn't find my dog for an hour or two....
The connections shown in that third picture (of the first link you offered) look like what's on the card I have, save for there is only one of them.
Now that we've got it determined that I need to give the card more power to figure out if it works or not, my next question is where can I get that power cord. I've asked the person that gave me the card in the first place if they have the power cord, but as of yet I have not heard back and am not holding my breath on her having it. Can I just purchase this cord from anyone or do I need something direct from MSI?
Milwaukeepc.com, this is what I need, if I am understanding everything right.

Ok I have another question on this topic that is probably going to make me seem like an utter idiot and noob. I'm not as dumb as some of these questions make me seem. I finally got the extra power connector for the graphics card, now the computer won't boot with it plugged in. Is this because the power supply is not large enough to handle all the power requirements?
