Smeg I must dig out that 586 board right away.Seriously tho' what a fine
idea there
must be thousands of integrated graphics boards that would fly with an
upgrade like that
1300% is mind blowing.

Mind blowing? It's just a meaningless 3DMark score and the comparison is
against the despised Intel GMA 915, a chipset so anemic Intel is
embarrassed to admit they can't get it to run Vista's Aero.

These cards sound spiffy as troubleshooting tools and that's about it.
Maybe for Vista-based Kiosk presentations too. 3rd and 4th monitor
usage, believe it when you see it.

If you really want several monitors, use DisplayPort.

To put that glowing 3DMark06 score from that review in perpective (which
looks to be about 1150 with the test rig and their 8600GT 256Mb card),
before I upgraded my wife's system to an Opteron 185 she was running a
single core San Diego 1Mb L2 2.4Ghz unit with a 64bit Diamond HD2400 PCIe
card that set me back $40. It got 1150 in the 3DMark06 default run. The card
is still in her system, but now it gets 1425 with the Opteron 185 at 2.8Ghz.
Their testbed is a P4 520 2.8Ghz 1Mb L2 rig with 1gig DDR2 and XP. And it
got 1150 in 3DMark06 with a 128bit 256Mb 8600GT???
Not what I'd be bragging about....
