Default GTX280 Benchmarked in Crysis

GTX280 Benchmarked in Crysis (page is Japanese, but screenshots are
universal). http://plusd.itmedia.co.jp/pcuser/ar...9/news034.html

What does this mean? Not much, the Crysis benchmark itself is useless. :-)

Note in the left GPU pic lower right, a shader speed of 1296MHz, wtf?

The GTX 280 shader clock is indeed 1296 MHz. It is no longer double the GPU
clock.

Apparently not, maybe they will increase soon..I read the shaders are up
to 50% faster even with the lower speed. Good news for the 1900x1200 and
FSAA crowd. 240 stream processors and fast shaders is a sign of free
4xFSAA and 16xAniso at that high resolution. That card will tear through
Oblivion no matter what settings you conceive. Maybe Crysis will be
worth playing now...maybe even Supreme Commander, that always got pokey.

Core 2 Quad underclocked to 1.6 GHz?!

Oh! Probably SpeedStep in action...

I don't think Crysis was worth playing as a game to begin with. However, Far
Cry 2 looks interesting, with the ability to burn down entire villages
thanks to flame propagation. :-)

I have high hopes for FC2 as well. FC1 came bundled with a 6800GT, which
ran well enough with moderate settings, but after a few patches and
driver revisions the 7-series encompassed 1600x1200 and everything below
with full IQ, even on multi-play.

Flame propagation seems interesting, perhaps those routines can be sent
to the physics engine and unused stream processors can render flame
tongues and sparks with duraflame-esque shaders. Hmm, fancy flames or
super high FSAA, don't make me choose.

Crysis was not too bad right up until you square off with General whoevever
and head in the alien ship. From that point on it becomes a completely
unimaginative and repetetive railshooter randomly blasting at the squiddies
in the air in various ways with zero fun or play factor. I've replayed the
game several times, trying different tactics and routes to get the
objectives and always stop there. Looking forward to FC2 as well.....

So what are you saying, that the GTX280 will lose its hardware AA resolver
and go to shader-based AA, like the Radeon 2900? ;-)
