Default 8600 GT (Anyone ?) LONG Winded.

Just got my brand new 8600 GT from Tiger Direct
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...rkey=p450-8650

Just replace my original 8400 GS, Please note: I could play ANY Video
Stream, threw KMPlayer and work heavy in Gimp & Photoshop with out ANY
video display problems.

Running a Quad 6600 / 4GB /700 GB Raid and 2 external 500 GB HD.
Vista Service Pack 1 32 bit ( 300 ps )

Have a nice 24" gateway HD monitor as well...

So, did some tests, went from Window Rating of 3.4 to 5.50 WOW,
Okay, I Thought I play some high res video's (.mkv or .ogm) format
So, I play this one video which a 1280 x 720 and with KMPlayer, you can
set the video to 3GHZ high present... this will display the best picture
ever, or other words, it uses everything the video source has to give,
and takes a step ahead.

Well, with the 8400 GS could play this from my external 500 GB hard
drives with no problems, by that I mean, I could watch a video,
and advance several frames or several mins ahead into the video
yes, skipping to certain parts with NO problem under high res. conditions.

Problem:
with the 8600 GT card everything seems fine as I mention about
the video test I did on the card... but when playing back the
high res video (as stated before) and yes skipping several mins
ahead, THIS is where the problem started.

First Time: Lost video picture, had sound then pictures come back.
Second Time: Lost video picture, then I would get a display of off color
pixels lots of white...like snow! across the 1280 x 720 and even into
the vista side bar.. So I would quite the video application,
and now my whole display is display off color pixel whites and blues,
like static snow... had to reboot, and all seems well again,
desktop, web surfing..etc

Call XFX techsupport (yawn) yes, 2h 4mins un-install drivers,
re-install drivers, run memory test...etc you know the drill...

Nothing work, this problem seems to happen when playing a high
res video and moving ahead several times, before the video display
for the whole monitor is affected.

Ask, XFX tech support if any nvidia setting need to be adjusted
for optimum playback for videos? He did not offer any support there
Kept saying there my be a bug with KMPlayer... or a vista thing?

I think, the card got a bug in it, as they say,
but funning XFX did not think so... even when I mention
I Never had this problem with my 8400 GS.. at all, my
display was never affected like this...always had perfect video display,
crisp and clear sharp, and full of color.

--
So, I thought I would as the video guru's Opinion? Options? RMA?

Major Thanks!!!
Rich

After reading this post I don't think your issue is a faulty card, but
rather the way your player software is interacting with your hardware.
Posting this to the www.kmplayer.com forums may generate a more meaningful
reply.

Ya it's definitely codec/pr0n/player related.

Your magnificently crappy new card is fine Richard.

I guess, you miss the part, where I said,
that 8400 GS, video did not have any problems,
NOR none of my other hardware... the only change
is the New 8600 GT card, then I started to have problems.

No I didn't miss that part, thank you. But if it makes you fell better by
all means RMA the card.

What he is sparing you is the technical explanation why it isn't faulty
hardware, in spite of your correct understanding in that the other card
doesn't demonstrate the problem.

Your described symptoms sound like typical software problems and not
hardware ones. Ask nice and he might explain why! (Maybe offer a gift.)

407 video (anime) without any issues... THEN its What?
Nothing else has change expect the video card.

So, you think, the codec's knows I have a 8600 GT card
and its going to act up? <pls>

Your codecs and player settings don't "know" you have an 8600GT
card......there's lots of issues that can do this without there being a
single thing physically wrong with your card...

When you installed the new card what did you do? How exactly did you
uninstall the old driver and card? Which drivers were you running previously
and which are you currently using? Is the driver you are currently using the
same one that your 8400GS was using? The available nVidia WHQL driver for
Vista32 recently changed (June 23rd to be precise). Current is 175.19. Did
you use the ones supplied on a CD with the card? Or from the website?
Enquiring minds want to know.....are the one's you have installed currently
the 175.16's????

If your new card came bundled with its own video player, you could try
playing the video in that to see if the problems persist.

I use a neat app called Driver Cleaner PRO,
in which I boot up into safe mode, and then selected,
nvidia, to which it remove all drivers from previous version.

Then already had download latest drivers from nvidia,
after reboot installed.

This is the same "Tech info" that xfx tech support dept
told me to do... I do have 175.19 installed.

Just check to be sure, nvidia driver
device manager: driver # 7.15.11.7519
date: 5/16/2008

As for the drivers, on the disc (cd) I did not use them
according to the tech support from xfx... said the current
driver from nvidia would be fine

Thanks!
Rich
