I just got my brothers eVGA 7800GTX OC and it's supposed to be clocked at
490MHz core. To start with it was but when I tried hybernating the computer
I got a message that the card had been lowered to a lower core to protect
it. After this it's stuck at 275MHz and I can't change it.
Anyone ahve any idea how to reset thinsg so I can get it back to 490MHz
again? (Could it be something in registry?).

The 7800GTX will run at 275Mhz in default 2D mode.....this is perfectly
normal. When it goes into 3D it will kick itself up to 490Mhz. And bring
itself back down when done 3D. There's nothing wrong with the card.

DOH! Do I ever feel stupid Well, you learn something every day.
The card DOES run very hot though.. even in 2d teh shroud gets hot enough to
be uncomfortable to touch.

It's the KO edition (Factory overclocked, runs at 490/1300).

Why did you think the 7900GT/GTX came into being? :-) You got the card from
your brother. If you were buying retail, there would be no reason to get a
7800GTX nowadays.
