Whatever FPS you are managing currently with the 7800 at that res, you
will maintain even with the addition of 4xFSAA and 16xAniso assuming you
have a reasonable CPU. Any dual core or a well cached speedy single core.
If you get fast FPS already in a game, whatever it is, whatever
filtering applied, you'll get more fast but maybe not more benefit of
the fast..but...
You can run FSAA and HDR simultaneously with the 9800GTX which you can't
do with the 7 (Oblivion), also the shaders in the 9800 are lightspeed
fast so the heavier the shader usage the greater the performance
difference (Crysis).
Subtract 10% from all results and happiness quotient if you run Vista
instead of XP. DX10 is not worth it, nor is DX10.1 it seems.

Thank you very much, MR E Solved!!
I currently have an A64-4600+ Dual Core with 2GB memory and 7800GT.
I'm THINKING of getting a Intel Core 2 Quad Core (I do lots of graphic
rendering) and 9800GT and 4GB memory.
The ATI 4870 looks tempting for the price, but I've never owned ATI and hear
mixed things about their drivers for apps. Also it's apparenlty wicked hot.

What Mr. E. Solved said is pretty accurate (maybe a bit conservative...I
went from a 7800GTX to an 8800GT and experienced exactly what he said. A
7800GT to 9800GTX is more of a jump. You will immediately find that your A64
X2 2.4Ghz CPU and DDR setup is immediately going to become a big bottlneck.
I was running an dual core Opteron 185 running at 2.9Ghz 2Mb cache system
when I upgraded the video. It immediately became apparent that the hottest
and fastest S939 and DDR combo were totally inadequate when coupled with the
new video card. I went with an E8400 setup which runs at 3.8Ghz without a
single BIOS tweak other than the FSB. A quad core is an excellent choice for
your needs. The 9450 would be my choice right now. 12Mb L2 cache and immense
OC potential.

Thanks guys! I was eyeballing the 9450 for sure. Any recommendations for
motherboards/chipsets?
I don't do SLI and don't need a lot of extras, but I always like to buy
fast/stable mobos from top companies like ASUS.
(My current is an Asus A8n-SLI Deluxe and even after 3 yrs it's kicking
butt).

I went with the Gigabyte GA- P35-DSR3 for my E8400, an excellent o/c and
stable board and doesn't kill the wallet.....the current BIOS (F13A)
supports the Yorkfield 9XXX 45nm Quad cores.

Hi, No, I'm not an overclocker. For me the most important features are
stability, out of the box speed, and future proofishness (I just made that
word up )
For example, i bought the A8N-SLI Deluxe over three years ago, and it was
top of the line, and it still has most of the features of todays' state of
the art motherboards. I've never had a board last me anywhere near this
long!
