If you select geforce 6 series on nVidia website's drivers section,
there are Win98 drivers for up to the 6800 range of cards. I am
looking for a fast and very quiet card for a Win 98 PC. Do the 6800
cards come either using silent passive heatsink only designs, or ones
that have large heatsinks whereby you can attach a very quiet fan of
your chosing to them?

There's not much out there for silent 6800GT cards....but noise should not
be a huge issue with what's available..this Biostar 256bit 6800XT AGP unit
is a good one....avoid the 128bit versions. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814141026

For this card, under the Specifications tab, it says:
Operating Systems Supported Windows 2000/XP
There may be no Win98 drivers for this card. Perhaps I ought to
consider another card? (Please refer back to my OP re Win98)

The nVidia drivers listed will work with this card.

Thanks. Looking at the nV release notes, you are right, all the 6800s
seem to be supported for Win98.
