After a decent initial testing, I have found the 177.66's not so bad
XP / DX 7-8-9 / GeForce 8800 (G92)
1) No video codec playback hangs
2) OpenGL titles work well, refresh rates are also sticky (a welcome find)
3) No ads during install
4) Control Panel functionality is as expected but classic control panel
hack still works if you need it.
5) DirectX titles work well enough no obvious issues in: Titan Quest,
CoH, Oblivion, SoaSE and Galactic Civ. GRAW2.
As a bonus, software transparency (in Infinity Engines) instead of
hardware transparency not only fixes the black box problem in the BG and
PS games, but doesn't slow the game to a crawl. Maybe this isn't due to
the driver, but I check it every revision and it usually the results
aren't this good.
Lastly, I had 2 crash/stutter free sessions of UT2004, but that was with
no EAX and no FSAA, so far so good.
Of course, DX10 / Vista / new hardware users (all 12 of you) are not
going to have the same results.
