Acer Aspire Problem

My mate has one of these and he has ran into a few problems...

His system seems to run for a while then just throws a BCOD up......I had a
quick look, i'm no expert but i've built my own PC's so I have a grasp of
what does what. Now, the fan on his heatsink isnt spinning so I thought that
it could be an overheating problem. We got a new fan......actually he did,
wrong size and all of that but did manage to screw an 8cm fan onto a 7 cm
heatsink (yep.....words fail me too)........now when he connect the cable to
the motherboard it doesnt always set the fan away spinning. Is there a BIOS
setting that controls the fan? Could he have switched something off.

I think the motherboard is an E22m 91TF88OU334, but I heard that Acer get
stuff from Foxxcom.

Any help would be deffinitey appreciated.

If you think the fan header is defective, you can use one of these to power
the fan.

The biggest connector, goes to a disk drive power connector. If you don't have a
spare disk drive power connector, you can get a "Y" cable that turns one
Molex disk drive connector, into two.

The connector with the three wires, goes to the fan. This will work, as long
as the CPU fan uses a three pin connector. The three wires are +12V, GND, and
the tachometer signal.

The third connector has only two wires, and it goes to the motherboard. It
brings the tachometer signal to the motherboard, so the motherboard gets
an RPM signal, and the motherboard thinks a fan is still present. (Some
BIOS will complain if they don't detect a fan, which is why the third
connector with the two wires comes in handy.)

I'd try and find one of those, as that will give you a way to feed a full
12V to the fan, and avoid any issues with the fan header power source.

I'd leave the ACPI alone.
