First time poster here...I have OFFICE 2003 installed, all the apps work fine
except WORD. When I open an existing document by clicking the actual file it
opens and saves fine. If I open WORD first then try to invoke OPEN either by
the icon or File >Open, WORD crashes. Also if I open WORD, create a new doc
WORD crashes when I try to save it. I have looked on the www but could not
find an answer. I have already tried reinstalling OFFICE, deleting
normal.dot, detect / repair etc... If I do all those things it will work
once, so it looks to me like something is breaking it but I cannot figure out
what. This is my WinXp workstation at work, on a network, I have installed
all the requred service packs, any thoughts will be appreciated.

If the error occurs only when you try to use File/Open, then this could be
one of two problems but first a couple questions to determine which problem
you're encountering. Does the error occur as soon as you click Open or does
the Open dialog box display and the error occurs when you try to navigate to
another folder? If the latter, how are you trying to navigate? Are you
clicking the Look In drop down?
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

The crash occurs as soon as I click OPEN, or if saving as soon as I click
Save.

If that's the case then the likely cause is some corruption in the Registry.
Exit Word and in the Registry navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\C ommon\Open Find\Microsoft
Word\Settings\Open
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\C ommon\Open Find\Microsoft
Word\Settings\Save As
And delete or rename both keys. They will be recreated when you start Word.
If you are worried about editing the Registry then prior to making any
changes to the Registry you should review "Backing up the Registry" and
"Restoring the Registry" in the Registry Help.

The other possibility is an invalid FTP site but that usually occurs when
you click the Look In list. It doesn't hurt to rule it out, though, take a
look at this article for the details. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q182475/
If that doesn't resolve it then we need more information about the error
message itself. What is the exact error message you encounter?

Figures, I should have asked for the error message in the beginning - I
thought about it but didn't. Sorry about that.
gwodm132.dll indicates the issue is caused by a third-party add-in,
GroupWise I think? You'll need to remove the add-in since it's the source of
the error. It could be listed in your Control Panel. If not then take a look
under Tools/Templates and Add-ins, do you see any add-ins listed?
