Hello NG!
I am from Austria, so pardon my English...
Recently I have installed Office 2007 (after deinstalling Office2003).
I like the new features but I do not like the poor performance.
The thing I dislike most is the slow startup of word. It takes about a
minute until I can start to write.
During startup Word shows me the application window (only the frame, the
inner area is white) and looks like the application has crashed. It takes a
lot of patience to wait...
Is there any workaround?
I have 2GB of RAM installed and office 2003 worked very quickly.
perhaps you have a slow CPU and low end video adapter?

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm . Although
the article was written for Office 2003 and earlier, the troubleshooting
steps also generally apply to Office 2007, except that the Word 2007
global template is called Normal.dotm and the Word 2007 data key is
\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 \Word\Data.

We recently upgraded to office 2007 in my office and it is slow on every
computer! We run mining engineering software so our computers are pretty well
equipped (2-4GB of ram and decent graphic cards). If the problem doesn't get
fixed soon we will go back to running office 2003. It's painful working in
the program now.

Thanks for your help.
I have tried out all the hints given at the site you suggested.
I learned a lot, but it did not help.
By accident I found an Addin called "Thesis". After deactivating this one,
everything works fine now.
I did the same within Excel - and also there the problems are gone. I hope,
this hint can help others having th same problem(s).
Do you know, what thesis should do? Will I miss it?
Thanks and have a nice sunday.

Helmut has offered the only solution other than the standard that solved the
problem for me. I too deleted the Learning Essentials whichincluded THESIS
and now Word 2007 on my XP box starts in just a few seconds, not the
grulingly slow startup time as before. I did all the other fixes,
reinstalls, regedits, etc. to no avail. Thanks!!
